INTRODUCTION

Greetings! Well, today was March 4th. Tt was last September, T believe when the
last Thought Bombs was published. Youve allgotten a break from diatribe city
from me, but every day is a parade of insanity, constant violence and abject
abliviousness. So, you knew T wasrit going to keep my mouth sht, forever

T got kinda rundown during the fall and lefters and handwritten essays, zines,
masters of zines, piled up and werer't dealt with, with any particular alacrity
Mostly, T was trying to figure out how o do all these things and make a ser
prison abolition conference in Chicago, in August, a reality. I was waiting on some.
pieces for the ABCN Newsletter, foo. The work, the constant family busle, the
hollowdaze - T was balancing on a ball without finesse and I was a bit frustrated.

“Then, it dawned on me. Tl will his conference into happering! Anarchists and
others will chip n along the wey and prety much everything that needs 1o be dealt
with, willbe, when 1's ol said and done. Tf it furns out bad, so what I tried, right?

Naturally, T sought solace in the care and advice of my elders. First, Bonnie.
Kerness said she would come and was 5o enthused. Right then and there. I Anew.
this conference would be totally awesomel T'd been lucky enough o collabarate
and spesk af length with Tom Big Warrior, hisforian for the Traditional Lenape
Nation. He's comin’ fool Robert King Wilkerson put soothing words in my ears and
mailed me his homemade candy - even hustled it to me, by airl Thanks, Brother!

T put the ABC Network Newsletter fogether in early-mid January as an eight-
paged newspaper. T did this because it would mail under an ounce. T was somewhat
surprised the printer. who prints staid country fown papers, didr't have a problem
with doing i. T had 10,000 copies made.at $490. A guy sent $100 from Calforni.
Houston ABC put on a show and sent $4001 My buddy John gave me $150. T must
have mailed 1,000 singles! And, I'm still mailing them, clmos every day. I sent
about 100 packets of 50, which weighed just under 3 pounds. There's a couple.
thousand around fown and in Champaign and T've still got maybe 2,500,

Tm trying to peck away at the complex and volumnous leters and submissions.
My son Stanton has hired himself to franscribe them at $2 per page. He does fire
workl Tve other projects going on, also. Tm warking with 8-PAC - Black Poli
‘Action Committee, who are working towards a big convenion April 2,3 & 4 in
Harvey, right near where T was thrown from my workstation, lost May. Im going
10 a big union meeting next Saturday. affer I have breakfast with the South Cook
Mirister's Conference. Itll be the first ime T've seen Bishop Brewton since his
namesake son died in a dreadful accident. His son was so sweef. It was sucha
time for griefl fhe living must carry on and fuck the falen inside of our hearts!

Vote Fraud [3

Police forces in this country were first organized as posses. Their job
was to track down escaped slaves. Their duties grew to include killing
Indians who may or may not have threatened outposts and settlements
on lands rustled from them, with or without a treaty, which if signed,
was invariably broken by the European settler invaders. These
eolonists called themselves “white.” The slaves, wrested from Africa and
the Native Americans, which they slaughtered with such fundamental
Christian zeal, were dutifully done in, for they were “savages.”
Genocide by the Book!

‘Which brings me to voting. This was always a sop. Only “white”
male landowners were allowed to vote and the candidates available
were the most properous criminals, who had managed to amass the
‘most stolen land and kidnapped slaves. Sometimes they chose
candidates who would most effectively push their agenda - syncophants,
order-takers, lawyers, talking heads, who measured their worth by
being the esteemed title-holders in this rigged system.

For, the American Revolution was a catastrophic disaster for
freodom, truth and life. Once the British were routed, the slavers and
expansionists were fully unleashed. No government can ever grant
anybody any rights. They can only take them away! Rights are
natural, innate. They come with birth. .

‘When it was obvious that the American patriots (the slave-owning
class) was poised to seize power, 100,000 people fled to Canada, seeking
froedom and escape from the looming genocide and institutionalization
of the “peculiar institution” of systematized slavery.

‘The rich always controlled everything and oversaw the writing of the
Constitution, state and federal laws, the forming of armies (stocked with
the poor) police forces, stockades, debtor's prisons and death squads for
the annoying natives, who refused to be enslaved.

The Constitution gave false legitimacy to this now centuries-long
government of extermination, genocide, exploitation and slavery by
‘making a big deal about the ‘rights” it would “grant” to white, male
property owners. Slaves were considered “private property” as was
land. It established a judicial system to insure and “legalize” the
‘property rights of the whites who had stolen the land and lives and
exploited labor (slave and wage) for further profit.

Tnstitutionalizing this criminal system was why these monolithic
structures were erocted (court ystom, laws, police, federal, state and
‘municipal government, etc.) They sure as hell were not going to allow
the election process to do anything to jeopardize this closed system!

Only white, male, property-owners of a certain age could even run for
elective offices and very few parties were allowed to genuinely
‘participate. The big boys had the system locked up tight!

Every president until Lincoln, had slaves, slaving for them, in the
White House! George Washington and John Adams worked out of
Philadelphia. Pennsylvania was a “free” (non-slave) state. But, there
was a Joophole. You couldn't hold slaves for more than six months. So,
they just rotated their slaves back and forth from the White House to
their plantations.

After decades of this nightmare society and a brutal civil war that
saw hundreds of thousands of working-class Americans (and slaves)
perish, the system was modified, a little.

Capitalist exploitation (wage slavery) continued and the now “freed”
slaves were eriminalized as vagrants. Prison slavery was on the rise.
Plantation owners could work prisoners in their fields, work them til
they dropped and not have to pay for them, clothe, house or even feed
them! Everything was nice and “legal.”

The opinion-makers, newspapers and journals were controlled by the
‘monied classes. When working-class ideas and movements started to
gain momentum, they were criminalized, broken up and the more vocal
were arrested, killed or otherwise suppressed. I guess you could call
this “democracy in action.”

Today? Same old, same old. Huge numbers of blacks and other poor
people have been criminalized and fed into the prison - slave - labor
ystem. They're not even allowed to vote for the corporate-groomed
andidates, nor are the huge number of ex-felons. The electoral college
and courts (and all manner of voting fraud) keep the results from being
influenced by the “rabble.” It's an absolutely meaningless charade,
‘meant to slather a fresh coat of veneer over this bloodthirsty regime,
every couple of years!

For, if by some miracle, a candidate with anything remotely
resembling a social conscience, were to somebow slip through the filters
and dragnots and become electod, he or she would be co-opted, set-up.
forced out or given the Allende treatment. ‘Cuz, under this locked down
and sewn up tight system, “It can't happen, here!

To underscore the fact that the U.S. Constitution is the opposite of
‘what it purports to be (a slaver's document, not one that “grants
freedoms”) is the fact that South Africa codified its system of apartheid
using the U.S. Constitution as the basis for its “legality.” In Plessy v
Ferguson, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the “separate but equal” line.
Essentially, it paved the way for massive, “Jim Crow” discrimination
and subjugation throughout the whole country, not just the South. As
well, Hitler used the successful example of “white” (‘Aryan” for him)
America claiming a whole continent, for America the whole Western
Hemisphere! Germany would settle for Europe and lordship over the
rest of the Eastern Hemisphere. He used the American model for his
racist, megalomaniacal, bloodthirsty expansionism throughout Burope.

‘The Nuremberg Laws, which marginalized and targetted for
extermination his classes’ “enemies” (Jews, communists, anarchists,
gypsies, disabled, etc.) were patterned after the U.S. Constitution, which
“legitimized” human slavery, and prison slave labor. The Constitution
claimed that black slaves were property to be considered worth “3/5ths™
a white person, in terms of jurisdiction and the level of representatives
their owners were entitled to! Causing expansionist genocide was an
honorable “duty” and “crusade!” The bedrock principle of Americanism
(slavery) was restated in the Dred Scot Decision of 1857. Yep! Slaves
‘were property, all right! Those who don’t submit, are killed!

‘This is the “Democracy” the U.S. has exported to Vietnam,
Cambodia, Nicaragua, Chile, Guatemala, Korea, Indonesia, El Salvador,
etc., etc. And now, the demented, crusading monsters in power wish to
bestow upon Iraq, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Libya, Korea, ete. this modern day
version of “freedom” and “democracy.” Brothers & Sisters, take care!

January 16th ssue of the Reader on page 22 (Culture Ciub.) ff was
about how folks have gotten together o get some "good pork”

As a serdously active grassroots organizer and Chicagoland
anarchist, | am quite naturally interested in this project. Don Turner
says, “)think the key issue was removing the anarchists and making it
afirst amendment issue..." Nathan Mason says “everyone's voice
‘would be listened fo" but didn't even attempt fo include actual
modem-day anarchists i this process! He said: “Who would they
choose to represent themselvesz” Why not ask local anarchistsi?

This Is amazing, for not only are these people trying to whitewash
Chicago history (by tuming the state murdering of innocent
anarchists) info a “free speech” issue, but they aren’t even
attempting fo include people who should be involved in thisl The
analogy | came up with is this. Would they exclude (and attempt to
mock) Christians, if they were fo do something similar at Calvary?2?

I would be glad fo be included as a *spokesmon” for the
arguments of the anarchist psition. | believe | have an extensive
background as an organizer, writer, ediitor, thinker and speaker. | co-
founded several grassroofs groups and run an extensive polifical
distro. | am inferested in geffing the anarchist intellectual arguments
brought fo the light of day. especially as this is a subject most near
and dear fo us. For, the same conditions that brought these brave
martyrs 1o fhe forefront of a powerful anarchist movement in
Chicago - wage slavery, destifution, repression, efc. still exist today
and in fact, have been globalized. The stiriing oratory delivered
from the gallows in 1887, which electrified countiess millions fo this
day - are more valid than ever. no matter how hard people iry to
sweep the realissues under the rug and try fo exciude those most

outlined how the Chicago police infllirated five Chicago activist
groups during 2002. These groups are:

driven prison abolifion group. We have no Inferest In threatening or
damaging the monuments fo stolen wealth - all the cold,

not a “danger,” which we've been demonized and slandered as.
Chicago ABC seeks o educate and empower people Inside and
outside the vast gulag system, as fo the frue nature and reality of the.

Anarchism does not mean chaos and viclence, but rather their
opposite. Anarchy stands for peace, freedom, voluntary
cooperation, free assoclation, mutual ald, consensus decision-
making, non-hierarchical and non-coerclve relationships and anti-
authorltarianism. These are the principles that make for a chance af
alegiimate, cooperative and genuinely sustalnable soclety.

The rampant chaos and violence we see everywhere today, is
overwhelmingly a direct function of milliarized, oppressive
govemments, which are almost invariably hrained, armed and
manipulated from Washington. The reason that the U.S. Intedteres so
aggressively in the countries of the world, Is in order to control their

stll many millions in this country are homeless, destitute, hopeless,

prisoners are encaged in the U.s.| Thousands of children die each
and every day due fo starvation and preventable diseases, while
billions more are on the brink of survival. Obese American fred the

Slavery Is a crime against humanity and Is the most ruthless form
of criminal exploitation, short of oulright murder and genocide. The
US. govemment s, has been and will be, heavlly Involved worldwide
in these massive killings, either by feroclous bomblng, military
occupation of through proxy armies and dictatorships. The

and most dangerous ferrorist rogue state, having murdered tens of

‘was iavited to plan a march and peaceful demonstation {0 be held duriog the Nov. 7
“Trans-Adaatic Business Dislogue mecting in Chicago.

Two AFSC staff eople,along with a representative of anofhe locl peace and social
justice group, negotisted with Chicago police for a prmit. From the very begianing, they
‘made it known that the demonstration would be by the book and noaviolea. Every
orgasizaion iavolved n the march and demonsiraion had ade a commitment 0
‘onvioleace and o abide by the rulessetforth in the permit. We had nothing 0 hide and
e hid noing. Chicago police knew from the sart what ou plans were.

‘Neverthelss, Chicago police heightened the ension around the march and
‘demonstration. Police built up a frenzy of fea, staging media eveats with mock
‘demonstrations, showing off the high-tech crowd-control equipmeat for which it spent
‘millions of dollars. Al this despitethe commitments by the groups involved to peaceful
nonviolence.

Now we lear that not only did police distort our intent although they knew otherwise,
they violated ou civi rights. This is not the first time AFSC has been infilraed and.
spied on by Chicago police. In the 1960s and *70s we were smong the organizations
targeted by the Chicago police Red Squad.

'GONDEMNATION OF INFILTRATION OF THE MOVEMENT FOR SOCIAL CHANGE
BY UNDERCOVER CHICAGO POLICE.

Last week a court:mandated intemal police audit revealed that undercover
officers inflrated five Chicago organizations: Not In Our Name (NION—
Chicago), Direct Action Network, Anarchist Black Cross, American Friends
Service Committee. and the Autonomous Zone. NION strongly condemns this
police ifitration of our movement as an assault on out basic right o 0PPose the.
criminal war on Iraq and on the world. These covert police operations set a
dangerous precedent and represent a major attack o the entire movement for
Socialjustice - including the anti-war movement — and on the peaple generally.

Ve find it abhorrent that the government sent police spies into our meetings and
‘events. We assume it was o pholograph s, 10 tape record us, and to identify our
leaders, among other things. Many of s remember similar operations during the
Vietnam War and Black iberation movements that resulted in govermment frame-
ups of righteous activists ike Geronimo Pratt who spent over 2 decades of his lfe
in:a penilentary. Some of the veterans from Chicago among us remember, only
100 well, how the police infirated the apartment of Fred Hampton, the leader of
the Black Panther Party, and then helped to st him up o be murdered as he.

City spokesmen claim that they began these spying operations because
protesters were threatening to disrupt the Trans-Atiantic Business Dialogue
(TABDY', an international meeting of business leaders that took place here in
Chicago in 2002. But similar operations have been uncovered natiomwide from
Fresno Califomia, to Grand Rapids Michigan, and to Abuquerque N.M. Last
spring in New York. arrested protesters were questioned about their political
‘associations, and the answers were pul into a database. Protests in many U.S.
cities were confronted by massive deploymenis of robacops, large woaden clubs,
tear gas, rubber bulets, and pre-emplive arrests. The power structure was
clearly stung by the people's resistance 1o their criminal war on the people of
Iraq. They have used massive resources to enact highly repressive legislation,
administrative measures and court rulings (ike ruling on the Chicago consent
decrees that legaiize police spying) and estabish a highly repressive inteligence
gathering and para-miltary apparatus to stop the unprecedented movement of
‘millions that busted onto the polilical stage throughout the world last March.

Let us ot forget that one-year ago hundreds of peaceful protesters were penned
in and detained by a massive force of police. Later 800 were arblrariy arrested.
‘On March 20 various leaders of the anti-war movement were clearly pointed out
with the assistance of undercover police operatives, plucked out of the
demonstration and arrested.

“The government continues to fear our resistance as we approach the one-year
‘anniversary of the start of the war and prolests are being organized in cities
‘across the globe. Many in our movement are looking 10 the RNC as an
‘opporturity to mobilize over a million people to pour nto Manhattan and send
‘another anti-war statement o the people of the world. The power structure noeds
our silence and compliance as they plan 1o commit even more heinous crimes.

‘Several woeks ago at Drake University, the government issued a subpoena,
caling for the university to hand over ail records relating to an anti-war
conference held on campus. They wanted the identty of all persons that

attended the meeting and the identity of the officers of the Drake chapter of the
NLG, among other things. They sought o justy this aitack on our movement by
painting it as a form of flegal suppor for “terrorism”. Meanwhile, the govermment
has been crafting repressive legistation like Patriot Act 1 and Patiot Act 2.
declaring citzens and non-ciizens as enemy combatants, and creating additional
ysteria by rounding up, detaining without charges, and deporting—Arabs.
Huslims, and South Asians.

Action Network, the Autonomous Zone and The American Friends Service
Committee is ot vigorously opposed we run the risk of opering the floodgates of
unlimited covert police activity. When this is combined with overt and brutal

‘Prisons are evidence of a society’s failure! Nations that have lots of
prisons, have to admit to failure as a society, if they are truthful. Let's
look at prisons in the United States.

Tve heard peoplo say that the Thirteenth Amendment of the United
States, “abolished slavery.” Let's analyze this amendment:

AMENDMENT XITI (1865)
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a
punishment for crime, whereof, the party shall have been duly
convicted, shall exist within the United States.

So, slavery was not completely abolished with Abraham Lincoln's
Emancipation Proclamation. The American people were lied tol
Slavery is alive in the United States, as logal punishment for anyone
who is convicted of a crime. The 13th Amendment only abolishes
slavery out in society, but prisons are the new slave plantations!

In 1992-99, I filed civil suit against then President Bill Clinton,
Missouri Governor Mel Carnahan and Director of Corrections, Dora B.
Schriro, for practicing stavery at Potosi Correctional Center, in the state
of Missouri. A Federal judge dismissed my civil suit, citing the 13th
‘Amendment, stating slavery was legal as punishment for those
convicted of a crimel

Capitalism cannot exist without slavery. That's why slavery has not
boen abolished!

Slavery is a crime against humanity. Its a crime against the dignity
of mankind. The United States’ practice of slavery proves that it is ot
a civilized nation, but an uncivilized nation. Civilized nations prod.ice
jobs for their citizens, spend millions on education and have no forms of
slavery at all!

Advanced technology s not what makes a nation civilized. It ia only
the absence of human rights violations that determines whether a
‘nation is civilized! Prisoners are tortured in prisons all over the United
States, by sadistic prison guards.

the United States, means the ITnited States of America is a barba
uncis ‘nation, with no regard whatsoever for human rights!

Prisoners are not allowed to vote. Why? Because such rights are not

human touch; caged and tortured; often sarved:; having shit and piss thrown on my body,
my face and my hair having my dreadlocks pulled out; having ribs and fingers fractured,
and having my head and lips busied.

've had my mail censored, had my personal belongings ransacked, read and used
10 contact my family and frends in the free world behind my back. My personal photos
have been passed out among their gossip hounds for purposes of sarting false rumors
‘about my family and friends. I've beea labeled a troublemeker, a snitch, a acist, a rapist,
a child moleste, and a woman kile to try t tum prisoners against me and what | believe
in. 1've ben labeled as suicidal, insanc and as predator.

Afterthe blood, sweat and tears over the past six years on this SHU—ihe
lonclincss, solation, long nights, longer days, the dreams, nightmares, the cold sweats,
the hot sweats, and the confusion-wiat is left of me? I can't understand,relate o, or
‘communicate with peoplc the way I used to. Much as I long for human contact, | ind
‘myself pulling back from what opportunities there are for dialogue. 1 purposefully push
people away. 1 can't afford o allow anyone to peneiraie my space for fear of people not
understanding my anger, my frutration, and my fears over the last six years.

In February and August of 2003, retumed to the county that 'm from, up north,
10,80 1 court to request a modification of my seatence. | had 10 tay in an overcrowded
‘county jail. The cells were made for two people, but beld four—a very tght fit

1 could neither seop nar ineract. I feit paranoid, out of place. | isolsted myself ss
‘est conld.from everybody else. When the other three were out of the ccll,and |
stayed there alone, I fet more at pesce, more comfortable, more protected from sharing
even my foclings. N

‘When it was lockdown, from 11 p.m. until 4 am, (hat'sthe time the doors were
locked and we were confined o that small el sat up and waicbed these other three
dudes. None of them was threatening ia any way. | was there for four days cach visit o
cour, and cvery night I slep iting up, a5 0 b in & defensive position—physically and
mentally. That's how I fet.

By my second visit o the jal, | wes t last aware of kecping to myself and wh |

shock, and my fear level was offthe scale. [ was scared to b around people. Isn' that
crazy? I've never talked about this to anyone beforc now. I find myself wondering what
my reaction willbe i 'm fetoffthe SHU back iato population with other prisoncrs, It

Tt was two tickets 1o Florida or Vegas. Good! Because we're all going to visit my
mother over Spring Breakl Now, T orly have 10 buy fwo tickets and we won't have:
o drive down to Florida. T don't want hours of traffic, maniacs, cops and society.
Tve been playing more femnis and riding the exercise bike at work. Me and the
boys got nice bikes and we're gonna ride more, now that the weather's staring 1o
break. Stepheris playing soccer and tennis. Stanton got a new amp - a big one.
S0's he's always rackin out. My wife is busy and they want to kick her pstairs
because she's such a talented webmaster. T want to play golfl Tm Joe Normall
February was kinda cool. It featured three "hlideys" in a row. Abe Lincolr's
birthday, Friday the 13th and Valentine's Day, which wes also our 18th wedding
anniversary. Earlier - Groundhog Day! Then on fhe 19th, there was an article in
the Chicago Sun-Times about the Chicago cops spying on and trying 1o infiltrate
five activist groups, including our ABC group. So on the 25th, the five groups held
a joint press conference in front of police headquarters - 35th & Michigan. Tt was
good! Fred Hampton, Jr. came and spoke powerfully about the assassination of his
father. He had a gun 1o his head before he was even bornl He and Aaron
Patterson are coming 10 the conference, ool These two Brothers are on a mission’
T guess T can say T'm in a pretty good state of mind. Spring brings fresh, new
Iife, things are happening and if's alweys a joy and pleasure to be involved in groups
of carnest, heartfelt people, strugaling o accomplish things. I take things day by
‘day and even in two hour coping sessions, while 'm af work. A couple deys ogo, o
guy hauling cars came in 100 close and fast. His front mirror shattered and
sprayed me with lttl reflective shards. T did't get hurt or anything, but it ws a
sort of warring. After oll, two of us who work this road have been killed aiready
this year! Til be glod when I findlly leave that place - hopefully this year sometime!
Trustingly, everybody is busy figuring out the details for the benefit shows and
50 forth they re organizing, to help fund this conference, specifically making sure
our high-octane.quests have their fransportation provided - mearing plane fickets;
